PROJECTS BY AREA OF FOCUS

Education

School Assistance and Intervention Team (SAIT): G&A is an approved SAIT provider firm that has worked with 12 SAIT sites in five districts. On average, G&A schools outperformed the state schools in this program by 20%. 25% have been state-recognized for substantive gains in student achievement within one year, and 17% eliminated the achievement gap with African American, English Learner and Hispanic-Latino subgroups achieving an 800 or greater API.

Algebra Success for All: Curricular Alignment, Master Scheduling and Placement: G&A worked with secondary school teams at John Swett Unified to build a strong path for student success in Algebra. This included everything from designing a flexible master schedule to review placement for individual students, and diagnosing student difficulties and developing customized intervention plans for each student.

G&A's Supplemental Materials Manual:  Mastering Math Standards Tests:  This packet of information in English and Spanish provides standards-based tools for preparing students in grade 2-7 for rigorous mathematics tests. The program is based on research that students who have access to information and tests beforehand become more familiar with testing protocols and less anxious about testing programs. By deconstructing the elements in mathematics word problems, the packet demystifies assessments for students, instructors, and parents. This inclusive tutorial was used in after school programs, Saturday schools, and as a take-home Spring Break packet. It was piloted in forty schools in the Bay Area with great success.

Evaluation of Bay Area Coalition of Equitable Schools' Coaching Program:  In April of 2002, G&A began an evaluation of the Bay Area Coalition of Equitable Schools' (BayCES) coaching program. G&A developed five case study reports, an extensive literature review addressing the qualities of the coaching program within the context of research-based effective practices, surveyed BayCES network schools, conducted extensive interviews, and classroom observations. G&A has been asked to make recommendations for policies based on the initial findings of this evaluation, and followed up in 2003 with a survey of all teachers at BayCES sites.
