Mission, Methods & Values

Founded in 1986, Gibson & Associates’ mission is to create a more equitable society by strengthening public and private agencies. To achieve this purpose, we provide services that are individually customized to the unique needs of schools and other organizations working in the areas of education, social services, public health and community development. We integrate research, planning, evaluation and coaching strategies to help clients develop their own capacity to improve the lives of the people they serve.

The following methods are at the heart of our work.

Client & community participation We begin each project by listening to our clients to better understand their strengths, needs and goals. We view clients and the communities they serve as valuable partners, rather than recipients of services and welcome their participation in every phase of a project.

Learning community culture We believe that by learning from model programs and practitioners, as well as research and data, we are better equipped to be agents of change in our organizations and our communities.

Team-oriented culture We believe in the power of team-based and collaborative approaches to solving problems and improving organizational capacity.

Client empowerment Our primary goal is to build the long-term capacity of our clients by helping them adopt sound research, planning and evaluation practices as part of their ongoing operations.

G&A OPERATING PRINCIPLES

G&A is a learning community that approaches its work in a manner consistent with our mission. G&A builds individual and organizational capacity through our commitment to the following methods.

We maintain high standards for ourselves, our teams and the entire organization; and as a result, we can accept nothing but the highest quality products and services.

We operate with honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, and compassion.

We value each staff member’s unique strengths while continuously providing considerate, constructive feedback and ongoing professional development to foster continued individual and organizational growth.

We use data and research to inform our services and to be reflective and analytic in considering how to improve our approach, methods and products.

We listen empathically and generously, sincerely attempting to understand the perspective of our colleagues and clients, respecting the integrity of every perception while providing honest, direct, yet compassionate criticism, as needed.

We work collaboratively in teams that accept full responsibility for the success of each project, where each member benefits from a clear understanding of his/her roles and responsibilities and contributes to clearly defined collective goals.

We celebrate individual and collective success while using set-backs as opportunities to learn and grow.

We contribute to a better world, yet we recognize that we must enjoy a balance among work, family friends, and other pursuits.

We recognize the seriousness of our goals and our work, but approach this work with a sense of humor and a sense of perspective.

OUR FAILINGS ARE TEMPORARY; OUR PRINCIPLES AND COMMITMENT TO A BETTER WORLD ARE NOT.
