
Ms. Baham has over 12 years experience working with inner-city youth in both a teaching and mentoring capacity. She received her master’s degree in education from Stanford University and holds a BA in Economics from the University of California, San Diego. While serving as a math teacher and department head in the San Francisco Unified School District, Ms. Baham contributed to the development, implementation, training, and data analysis of a district-wide middle school math assessment, conducted workshops for middle school math teachers, and developed a supplemental mathematics curriculum geared towards engaging and empowering low-performing youth.
Ms. Baham joined G&A in January 2002. As an associate, Ms. Baham works as part of the Education Team and also has occasionally conducted field research in relation to a variety of community research and evaluation projects. As part of the Education Team, Ms. Baham has continued to provide assistance to schools in the area of mathematics instruction and best practices, including leading staff development sessions, designing and managing an in-school intervention program in WCCUSD and OUSD, as well as creating and calendaring out a systematic approach for California Standards Test Math preparation for elementary and middle schools in SFUSD and OUSD focusing on key standards.
She also has facilitated leadership team & staff development meetings in an effort to help schools overcome barriers to student achievement, and has co-facilitated SAIT work with 10 elementary and middle schools in SFUSD, OUSD and WCCUSD. Ms. Baham has also written and evaluated grants for public schools participating in state programs for underperforming schools (II/USP and HPSG), and researched and designed an after-school program for implementation in OUSD. Ms. Baham has co-facilitated a two-day retreat with 15 elementary school principals that focused on strategies for creating a learning community, examining classroom practice, and improving overall school processes. During the 2004-2005 school year, Ms. Baham provided leadership coaching to eight OUSD principals and assisted them with implementing Strategies for Effective Organization (SEO).
As part of the Gibson Learning Communities design team, Ms. Baham has begun to tackle issues of school climate and culture, with a keen awareness that being able to understand and shape the culture is key to a school's success in promoting staff and student learning. Most recently, Ms. Baham attended a three-day training on positive classroom discipline and instruction taught by Fred Jones. Towards this effort, Ms. Baham is also researching various character development programs, parent involvement strategies, and school reform models.
