Joanna Ortega, MPH
Joanna Ortega, MPH Berkeley, works as a Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist at Venture Strategies Innovations (VSI), a US-based nonprofit that works to improve women’s health in developing countries. She currently leads the monitoring and evaluation of a maternal health program in Rwanda. She is a fluent Spanish-speaker and spent over two and a half years living and working as a Peace Corps volunteer in rural Ecuador. In 2012, she worked with the Human Rights Center at UC Berkeley on a qualitative evaluation of safe shelters for women who have experienced sexual and gender-based violence in displaced communities. In this evaluation, she traveled to Colombia to interview women, staff, and key informants at Safe Shelters in Colombia and later translated these interviews to English. She has a range of experience in evaluation and has designed and conducted quantitative and qualitative evaluations of health and education programs in both the US and abroad. For G&A she provides quantitative data analysis as well as co-facilitation of focus groups with Spanish-speaking populations.
